And again, we have so much to update you on. It has been another impressive couple of weeks from everyone at FoTV, our volunteers and the West Lancashire Park and Countryside Ranger Service. We are so proud of what’s been achieved in the Valley as of late and we can’t wait to tell you all about it below.
Where to start! Wow! Let us begin with the marvellous moth breakfast event we had at Tawd Valley Park at the beginning of the month. The variety of moths we had to look at was phenomenal. A big thank you to Ranger Chris for setting up his moth trap late night and again early morning, ready for the event. And thank you to everyone who came to listen to Chris’ fantastic talk about the moths he caught. It was a great morning.
Outstanding work a few days later by the volunteers from Cotopaxi, who along with Team Tawd and Ranger Chris removed some old worn out steps near the Houghtons Road bridge. Work then began on building a new set of steps down the steep slope to the riverside. Many thanks to everybody there for all your hard work. Its starting to take shape and it looks absolutely brilliant.
Next up, before there was even time for a sit down, cuppa tea and a little nap, a couple days later we where back down in Tawd Valley Park. This time we were up and out for 4:30am for the annual Dawn Chorus walk. And what a walk it was – It did not disappoint. We had around 30 different bird species identified in the Valley on the morning. Some favourites included Whitethroat and Willow Warbler. Thank you to Graham Clarkson for being our phenomenal guide, Ranger Chris for his organisational skills and to everyone who came.
For King Charles Coronation Bank Holiday weekend, FoTV took part in the “Big Help Out” UK wide event. We held two 1 hour guided walks and litter-picking sessions in Tawd Valley Park. As always a big thank you to the West Lancs Ranger Service and everyone who joined us. It was great to see some newcomers who signed up to become members, which is fantastic! We collected quite a few bags of rubbish and its made a real difference in the park.
A few days ago, the work continued on the steps. Team Tawd teamed up with the Thursday volunteer rangers, who were accompanied by Rangers Chris, Hannah and Amy. A fantastic job was done by all. Hopefully, with one or two more sessions, the steps should be complete. Watch this space.
The other evening, we had a wonderful time in the valley with the 42nd Ormskirk Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs & Scouts planting tree saplings to strengthen the hedge line that follows the path towards Half-Mile Fishing Lake. A massive well done to the children for their tremendous efforts. Thank you to all who attended. Fantastic work!
