We at Friends of Tawd Valley hope you all had a wonderful Christmas period. As we fast approach the new year, we would love to share with you what we have been up to in the community in the last week or so…
Boxing Day was the perfect opportunity to burn off all the Christmas food, chocolate and treats we had enjoyed the day before, and what better way of doing that by taking a lovely stroll through the Tawd Valley Park.
The turnout was absolutely fantastic. Around 30 members of the community joined FoTV for their Boxing Day walk. We all met at Skelmersdale Library’s carpark and begun our journey towards the new Tawd Valley Children’s Play Area. From here we continued down the path, crossing the high bridge at the bottom of the Yewdale estate, then took a right and headed down into the Valley.
We rambled on past the Large Pipe towards Mill Lane Bridge, then on up to the Tawd Valley Allotments and FoTV Classroom, before heading down to Summer Street Bridge.
The group journeyed on across Summer Streets Wildflower Meadow and on to Cobbs Clough Weir were we then circled back on ourselves and finished back at the library. Despite the awful weather on the day, we were over the moon to have such a huge turnout, and it seemed like everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Thank you to FoTV committee member Rita Newby for walking the route before the day and also for organising the children’s worksheets for the WLBC Ranger Services Festive Trail markers.
We are hoping to make this an annual event, as well as hosting more walks throughout 2023!
