Cuppa Tea and Relax Time

We’ve had an exciting new venture start-up at FoTV and it has been unbelievably popular. It had an incredible turnout on its pilot day and its only going to get better as the months go on. We are of course talking about Kingfisher Club.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first Kingfisher club the other week. The turnout was fantastic and the children behaved very well, producing some fantastic art work and retaining lots of knowledge about Kingfishers. A great morning was had by all. Interested? Then follow us on Facebook to keep up to date on when the next session is.

Next up, FoTV helped with the Tawd Valley Park’s West Lancashire Borough Council Parks & Countryside Ranger Service hosted bat walk the other night. A big thank you to Billinge Bat Rescue who did a talk all about bats before leading a group into the valley armed with bat detectors to see what they could find. As always, it was very informative and entertaining. We enjoyed it immensely.

The results for the Tawd Valley Park Bat Walk 2024. We had:

Common Pipistrelle (45KH) – 305 records

Soprano Pipistrelle (55KH) – 10 records

Brown Longed Eared – 2 records

AMAZING!

Work and training continued…

The volunteers of Team Tawd joined forces with Ranger Chris, guys from Groundworks and a team from CCNW to carry on the green engineering work on the banks of the river to prevent further erosion. Using the hazel and willow bundles they made recently these were placed between wooden pegs and tied in.

A little further along the river some live willow rods were woven between live willow uprights, a traditional technique called spiling, which will also prevent further erosion. Once this is completed the willow should take root and secure the river bank.

Great work by everyone involved, thank you for all your hard work.

WAIT WHAT!!! ANOTHER BAT WALK!?

We were honoured to host a bat walk in Tawd Valley Park for members of Ormskirk Clocktower Rotary and Skelmersdale Upholland Rotary yesterday evening. We saw and heard some amazing wildlife. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

And now for some sensational news…

A massive congratulations to our CJ! Ormskirk Clocktower Rotary nominated CJ for the Rotary Young Citizen Environmentalist Award last year and he was handed his certificate for a highly commended nominee last night at the bat walk. Well done, CJ.

That’s your lot. As always we’d like to thank you for the continued support you show by coming back time and time again to read our news and blog stories. Check back soon for more updates.
