Lets Get You Up To Speed

Wow! Where does the time go? We’re scared to blink in case we miss something. Anyway, lets get you your FoTV fix and get you up-to-date.

We’ll start off with all the wonderful things that Team Tawd and the Rangers have been doing down in Tawd Valley Park since our last blog – Meadow maintenance was on the agenda at the start of October, as the team got to work raking and collecting the cut grass, getting it all ready for the winter.

As October rolled on the team got together for a second time for a litter-picking session near to the town centre.

The weather was good to Team Tawd, West Lancashire Borough Council Parks & Countryside Ranger Service and Groundwork Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside the following Friday as they fixed new signs in Tawd Valley Park. The new Half-Mile Lake Interpretation board was funded by the Save Our Wild Isles crowdfunding project.

There was no stopping Team Tawd as they marched into November and again joined forces with Ranger Chris to install four more ‘Barry Nolan Way’ signs along the footpath in the Tawd Valley. These new signs serve as a warm tribute to former local councillor Barry Nolan, guiding visitors through the valley and will be easily seen by walkers and cyclists alike.

Path maintenance and tree management have been the theme for Team Tawd and Rangers as we continue into November. A huge thank you to everyone involved, their hard work has made a visible and lasting impact.

Moving on, we turn our attention to the fantastic Kingfisher Club and all the wonderful things they’ve been doing over the past couple of months. Octobers session was all about OWLS! The children created their own foam, and picture owls, and then had the opportunity to compare their creations to the real things. Check these cool photos below:

The autumn sunshine shone on the FoTV volunteers at our October volunteer event who, along with Ranger Hannah, carried out various tasks in the valley. The grass cuttings were cleared from the orchard where the hedge was also trimmed. Damaged saplings were replaced, litter was picked, the raised bed was prepared for planting up and a new Tawd Valley Park sign was erected near the classroom. Wow! What a hard working bunch!

Next up, check out this amazing video that The Wild Trout Trust have produced about the River Tawd. This YouTube video showcases all the hard work that has gone into improving the river and getting it to where it is today. Thank you to Dr. Paul Gaskell (WTT Northern Representative) for all the help and guidance he has provided to FoTV, as we strive to reach gold chapter accreditation of the WTT’s Trout in the Town project.

Before we go, why not consider joining us on the 23rd November for our next volunteer event. This session will be a collaboration between FoTV, Ribble Rivers Trust and the WLBC Ranger Service, as they tackle the litter and rubbish in Tawd Valley Park and surrounding areas.
